Our Story
At PlateRx, we believe that what you eat matters, but how you eat matters just as much. And sometimes, the simplest shift can have the biggest impact.

PlateRx was created by a Registered Dietitian to give people a sustainable, judgement-free way to build healthier meals without counting, measuring, or obsessing. It starts with one small but powerful tool: the 9-inch plate.

The average dinner plate in the US measures at approximately 11 inches, holds around 1300 calories, and silently encourages oversized portions. The PlateRx plate is intentionally smaller - a minimalist 9-inch design that holds approximately 700 calories. Contrary to the current plastic divided plates on the market, the PlateRx plate is microwave safe and fits beautifully into any kitchen. Welcome to dinnerware re-designed and re-imagined into a health tool that naturally supports smaller portions and overall balanced eating.

Whether you follow our PlateRx method or simply want to reset your portions without the pressure of a diet, this plate is a way to build a foundation that you can always return to, no matter what life throws your way.
The 50-30-20 Theory
The 50-30-20 theory of the divided plate is a simple yet effective approach to balanced eating that increases satiety, emphasizes portion control, and encourages nutrient diversity. According to this method, your plate is divided into three sections:
50% of the plate is filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables, providing essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber
30% of the plate is dedicated to lean proteins, which support muscle health and provide sustained energy
20% is reserved for grains or starchy vegetables, which offer necessary carbohydrates for fuel
This balanced approach ensures that every meal is nutritionally comprehensive, promoting overall health and helping to manage or prevent chronic conditions by focusing on whole, nutrient-dense foods.

**Note that this theory changes for people with chronic kidney disease. Please see the CKD diet page for modifications.
